The Ucieda-Osorio House stands in the middle of the Camino de Santiago, in Camponaraya, as an example of how the memory of the territory can dialogue with the demands of contemporary architecture. This 18th century manor house, historically linked to the Lords of Canedo, had fallen into a deep state of abandonment, with floors at risk of collapse, walls invaded by weeds and a winery that still evoked the strong winemaking tradition of Bierzo.
The Camponaraya City Council, after receiving the property as a donation, promoted a comprehensive rehabilitation project that sought a double objective: preserve the architectural legacy of the house and turn it into the most sustainable building in the municipality. The intervention combined traditional techniques—artisanal lime plasters, enchinarrado of pebbles, restoration of wood and original locksmiths—with state-of-the-art solutions in energy efficiency: interior insulation, high performance carpentry, ventilation with heat recovery and geothermal.
Hoy, the Ucieda-Osorio House is a cultural and museum center open to residents and pilgrims, a space where the noble past of the region and the sustainability of the future coexist. His rehabilitation was recognized with the Palacio de Canedo Foundation Award 2024 in the form of buildings restored by town councils and neighborhood associations.
